Looking for an authentic Nepalese restaurant in Ilkeston? Namaste — you’ve found us. Himalayan Kitchen is a family-run Nepalese restaurant and bar on Granby Street, in the heart of Ilkeston town centre (opposite Dominos), serving the food our family grew up with in Nepal: hand-folded momos, slow-built Himalayan curries and sizzling grills, cooked fresh to order every day.
Real Nepalese cooking, from our family to yours
Our kitchen is led by Chef Bhuwani Acharya — our dad — cooking with over 25 years of experience and recipes passed down through generations. Front of house, the rest of the family looks after every guest like one of our own: people tell us they come for the momos and come back for the welcome. Nepalese food is Himalayan mountain food — lighter on cream than typical curry-house dishes, bigger on fresh ginger, garlic and warming spice, and made for sharing. If you’ve never tried it, you’re in for something special; if you know it, you’ll taste home.
Nepalese dishes to try first
- Momos — Nepal’s most-loved street food. Five dumplings hand-folded to order (vegan, chicken or lamb) with our house momo chutney, from £6.25. Also available smothered in garlic, ginger & chilli sauce.
- Sherpa — chicken or lamb balanced with seven herbs and spices, traditionally hot.
- Ra Ra Chicken — chicken and minced lamb with fresh chillies, garlic, ginger and spring onion.
- Nepal — a mild, fragrant curry with mango and ground coconut.
- Himalayan Signature — tender lamb, chicken tikka and king prawn with roasted garlic.
- Vegetable Bagaicha & Paneer Tikka Makhmali — vegetarian dishes built on our Nepalese mother sauce.
